Religion is not a matter of opinion

Brothers in Islam, Allah ordered us to follow the great religion of Islam, that of holding the correct belief in Allah and His messengers, and holding the best ethics and morals. Whoever implements and adheres to the noble teachings of Islam shall be victorious in this life and in the Hereafter. The sources of legislation in Islam are first the Holy Qur’an, then the sayings of Prophet Muhammad, followed by the scholarly consensus and finally the sayings of the mujtahids which have the ability of deducing Islamic judgments. Imam ^Aliyy may Allah be pleased with him said: “Religion is not a matter of opinion“. The sources of legislation in Islam are to be followed when the disputes occur, be it between the husband and wife, or between trade partners, or...

Thought of God’s creatures

Dear brothers in Islam, Allah said: قال الله تعالى:” وَاللهُ أَخْرَجَكُم مِّن بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْئًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْسَّمْعَ وَالأَبْصَارَ وَالأَفْئِدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ” This ayah means: Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing; and He gave you hearing, sight and hearts, Be mindful of that and thank Him. (Surat An-Nahl, Ayah 78) Allah informs us that when He the Exalted brought us forward from our mother’s womb we knew nothing about the rights due to The Provider who created us in the womb. The ayah’s purpose is to reveal the favour of Allah upon mankind in that He the Exalted brought mankind forward from the womb while mankind knew nothing and created for mankind the organs to...

Virtue of humbleness

All praise is due to Allah The Exalted, and may Allah raise the rank of our beloved Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, his kind relatives and companions, and protect his nation from that which he feared for them thereafter; Dear brothers In Islam, Allah ta^ala said In the Holy Qur’an: ” تِلْكَ الدَّارُ الآخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لا يُرِيدُونَ عُلُوًّا فِي الأَرْضِ وَلا فَسَادًا وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ”   This ayah means: [That is the pleasant final place; we grant it to those who are not arrogant on earth nor want to spread seditions]. Imam ^Aliyy, may Allah raise his rank, said “This world is coming closer to an end, and the hereafter is approaching rapidly. So be among those who work for the hereafter, and don’t be among those who...

Farewelling the month of Ramadan

Dear brothers in Islam, After we farewell the month of repentance let us all remain steadfast on repentance and after we farewell the month of good deeds let us also remain steadfast on performing acts of obedience. The proper and complete repentance is one which Allah the Exalted loves and accepts. It is the repentance where you repent from all the past committed sins, regret having done them and never return to sining. Thabit Al-Bunaniyy, a righteous and God-fearing slave of Allah subhanahu wa-ta^ala, out of whom grave the recitation of the Holy Qur’an used to be heard. It was related from the one who placed Thabit in his grave saying: “I swear by Allah, The One worthy of worship and the only God that we placed Thabit Al-Bunaniyy in his grave, and as we were...

Determining the beginning of Ramadan

The obligation of fasting the month of Ramadan begins upon the occurrence of one of two matters: To sight the crescent of Ramadan after the sunset of the 29th day of Sha^ban (the month directly preceding Ramadan) or, if the crescent is not seen, 2. Completing thirty (30) days of Sha^ban. So, the beginning of the month of Ramadan, as well as the end of the month, is determined by sighting the crescent. If the crescent was not sighted, then the month would be completed by 30 days, as is the case with determining all the months of the lunar calendar. This is taken from the hadith of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلّم related by al-Bukhariyy and Muslim: لا تَقَدَّمُوا رَمَضانَ بِيَومٍ أَوْ يَومَين صُوموا لرؤيتِه وأفطِرُوا لرُؤيتِه فإنْ غُمَّ علَيكم فأكْمِلوا عِدَّةَ...

Raising our children Islamically

All praise is due to Allah and may Allah raise the rank of our Prophet Muhammad and protect his nation from that which he fears for them. Dear brothers in Islam, I urge myself and you to fulfil the obligations and avoid the unlawful. Allah, the Exalted, said in the Holy Qur’an in Surat at-Tahrim: يا أيها الذين ءامنوا قوا أنفسَكم وأهليكُم نارا وقودُها الناسُ والحجارة This Ayah means: [O you who believed protect yourselves and your families from Hellfire, which is fuelled by people and stones]. Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said: << Everyone of you is responsible for certain people and shall be questioned on the Day of Judgement about that responsibility >>. Allah, the Exalted, bestowed upon Prophet Muhammad the last and the simplest set of rules....

Welcoming the great occassion of Hajj

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam; Indeed the honoured and sacred Ka^bah is the first house and mosque built on the face of this earth, and Prophet Adam peace be upon him was the first to build it. However, at the time of Prophet Nuh ^alayhis-salam, the Ka^bah collapsed during the great flood which had covered the entire earth. The Ka^bah is in the middle of the earth’s surface and above it in the 7th sky and parallel to it, is a holy and sacred house called al-Bayt-ul-Ma^mur. To the inhabitants of the skies (the angels), al-Bayt-ul-Ma^mur is regarded as the Ka^bah is to the inhabitants of the earth. Every day, 70,000 angels enter it, pray in it then once they leave they never return to it. Allah subhanahu wa-ta^ala ordered Prophet Ibrahim to rebuild the sacred...

How can we not admire Muhammad

All praise and thanks are due to Allah subhanahu wa-ta^ala, We sincerely thank You Allah for endowing upon us the bounty of Islam, the best of all bounties. We bear testimony that no one is worthy of worship except Allah, the One who has no partner in His Godhood, the One who is clear from any attributes of imperfection and has no resemblance to His creation. Whatever one imagines in their mind, Allah does not resemble it. He existed eternally and there was no place, and after He brought the creation into existence, He exists as He was, without a place. He created the great Throne as a sign of His power, and not as a place for Himself subhanahu wa-ta^ala. And we bear testimony that our Leader and Master Muhammad sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam is His servant and...

The Holy Journey of Hajj and ^Umrah

As the Hajj season has commenced, the truthful righteous believers started to feel in their hearts the blessings of this season. Some even started preparing themselves for this Holy journey to Makkah and Madinah, the city of the Best Prophet, Muhammad peace be upon him. Others who long for the Holy Cities of Makkah and Madinah but are unable to go remained struck with grief and sadness especially because they are unsure whether or not they would be able to perform Hajj in the upcoming years. Brothers in Islam Ibrahim Ibn Adham was among many who travelled on foot to perform Hajj. One day and while he was walking to Makkah, he saw a man riding a camel. The man asked Ibrahim Ibn Adham: Where are you going? Ibrahim said: I am heading to Makkah to perform Hajj. Then...

Visiting the Grave of the Prophet

There is consensus among the scholars that it is sunnah to visit the grave of the Prophet, sallAllah u ^alayhi wa sallam, both for he who lives in al-Madinah and he who travels there for the express purpose of visiting the Prophet’s grave, and doing so is a great act of obedience. It is sunnah for the visitor to also have the intention to travel to pray in the mosque of the Prophet. Whoever travels to al-Madinah for this purpose should keep in mind the great honour of the city of al-Madinah, and that it is the best city after Makkah. He should ask Allah to benefit him from this visit which is an act of worship. It is sunnah to perform the purificatory bath (ghusl) before entering al-Madinah and to wear one’s cleanest clothes. Upon entering the mosque of the...

Welcoming Ramadan

Remaining are just a few days that will pass in the blink of an eye, then the month of repentance, mercy, goodness, abstinence, generosity and blessings shall come to us. Remaining are a few days that will rapidly fold away, and then by the Will of Allah the Lord of the worlds, the best of all months –Ramadan- will come. O slaves of Allah, the month of Ramadan is a month the pious people await. Men and women await its days and nights to perform more acts of worship therein. Consider the example of Zubaydah (may Allah have mercy on her) who was the wife of Harun Ar-Rashid (may Allah have mercy on him). She did a great deed. She ran the water from a distant land to the land of ^Arafat. This water was known as the Water of Zubaydah. Had it not been for that water,...

The Integrals of Fasting

The integrals of fasting are two: 1- To make the intention each night to fast the following day of Ramadan. Making the intention at night to fast the following day of Ramadan means to have the intention in one’s heart to fast during the night preceding the fasting day, i.e., after the sunset and before the dawn of the following day. Sometime during that time, the person must make the intention to fast the following day. This must be done each night for the following day of fasting. As related by at- Tirmidhiyy, an-Nasa’iyy, and others, the Prophet  said: لا صيام لمن لم يبيت النية which means: << fasting would be invalid if one does not establish the intention at night>> The intention is in the heart, and does not have to be uttered with...

Eid-ul-Fitr Speech

We start in the Name of Allah subhanahu wa-ta^ala, The Most-Merciful and Forgiving of all those who show mercy and forgive. We praise Allah and thank Him for the blessing of Islam. And we humbly ask Allah to shower His peace and blessings on our noble and humble Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet sent as a mercy to all of mankind, the truthful and trustworthy, the most handsome, courageous, and loved Prophets to Allah subhanahu wa-ta^ala, and may Allah protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Brothers and sisters in Islam; The day of ^Id is a great and glorious day. ^Id -day is an occasion of happiness and joy. As Muslims, joy and happiness in this world is felt when we apply all efforts to obey Allah and perform good deeds that gain reward and success...

Items that came down fom Paradise

Dear Brothers in faith The one who wants the highest of status in Paradise and to enjoy it without being subject to any prior torture in Hellfire must avoid all the sins and fulfill all the obligations. Among the obligations is to learn the personal obligatory knowledge. Ibn Hibban related that Abu Hurayrah once asked the Prophet: “O Messenger of Allah guide me to a good deed if I perform I shall be admitted into paradise”. The Prophet answered: “feed the poor in obedience to Allah, keep ties with your Muslim kin and perform optional prayers at night while people are asleep. Doing this will earn you admission into Paradise without prior punishment”.  Whoever lives by these practices and qualities will win Paradise without punishment. Dear brothers, the best of...

The miracle of the Speaking Wolf

The miracle is an extraordinary act. It is not a usual event that happens in everyday life or to everyone. Miracles are only for prophets and are always in agreement with what they say. So, no one can do anything that is equal or similar to a miracle to discredit a prophet. A Prophet is known through a miracle, in fact there has not been a Prophet without a miracle. A miracle is a sign which testifies to the truth of the claim of Prophethood that a prophet makes. Imam ash-Shafi^iyy said:” For every miracle Allah gave to the other Prophets, He gave Prophet Muhammad a similar or a greater miracle”. Among the miracles of Prophet Muhammad is the story about the wolf that spoke and testified that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Al-Imam Ahmad narrated...

The Four Schools of Thought

Brothers in Islam, I urge you as I urge myself to be obedient to Allah, the Exalted, to remain steadfast on the path of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him and to follow the methodology of the noble scholars that taught Islam to people leaving for the Muslim nation a great wealth of beneficial knowledge in all the subject matters of Islamic studies. Among those scholars are: Imam Malik, Imam ash-Shafi^iyy, Imam Ahmad Ibn Hambal and Imam Abu Hanifah. Those scholars reached the rank of Mujtahid and benefited Muslims with their knowledge and ijtihad. Ijtihad is deducing religious edicts for which there is no explicit textual judgement in the Qur’an or in the Hadith. However, ijtihad is not applied to matters for which there is an explicit textual ruling in the...

The Importance of Prayer

We start in the name of Allah, Most Merciful and Forgiving of all those who show mercy and forgive, All praise is due to Allah, whom everything in the earth and the heavens glorifies, and all signs in the universe testify to His existence subhanahu wa-ta^ala. We bear testimony that there is no God except Allah. He is alone and has no partner. And we bear testimony that our Leader and Master Muhammad sallallahu ^alayhi wasallam is His servant and Messenger, whose efforts succeeded in raising the banner of Islam, and who strived to wipe out disastrous misguidance and infidelity. May Allah shower His peace and blessings on him, and his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Dear brothers in Islam, Allah ta^ala said:...

Islamic Customs and Modesty

Praise be to Allah, the Almighty, the One who is not described with the attributes of the creations. Allah revealed to his Prophet, peace be upon him, in the Qur’an – the Ayah: ” لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَىْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ” which means: [There is absolutely nothing like Allah]. I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad peace be upon him is his Messenger. Dear brothers, our Khutbah today is about Islamic customs (^adat) and modesty (haya’) which are very critical aspects when raising your kids. Your kids are in your trust. Ensure that you raise them on matters that are beneficial to them in this life and in the Hereafter. Ensure that you teach them to avoid immoral practices and manners. Allah says in the Qur’an:...

Fasting the Day of ^Ashoura’

^Ashura’ day lies on the 10th day of Muharram. Fasting the day of ^Ashura’ has been unanimously agreed upon by scholars of Islam to be a sunnah deed. Many great events in the history of Islam happened on the day of ^Ashura’. Some of which were as follows : On this day, Allah saved Prophet Moses from the evil Pharaoh who drowned also on that day. Allah accepted the repentance of Adam after he committed the small sin when he ate from the forbidden tree in Paradise. This was a small sin, however, not one that shows low self-respect. Also on the day of ^Ashura’ the Arc of Prophet Noah landed safely on the Mount of Al-Judiyy in Iraq after the flood .Al-Hussayn son of Imam ^Aliyy was martyred on that day and the battle of “Dhatur-Riqa^” took...

Dear brothers in Islam, Allah said: قال الله تعالى:” وَاللهُ أَخْرَجَكُم مِّن بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْئًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْسَّمْعَ وَالأَبْصَارَ وَالأَفْئِدَةَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ“ This ayah means: Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing; and He gave you hearing, sight and hearts, Be mindful of that and thank Him. (Surat An-Nahl, Ayah 78) Allah informs us that when He the Exalted brought us forward from our...

Why was this named by that?

We start in the name of Allah The Lord of the Worlds, all Praise is due to Him. We humbly thank Allah for the blessing of Islam, the greatest gift one could ever receive for it is the key to Paradise on the Day of Judgment. We ask Allah to shower his peace and blessings on our noble and beloved Prophet Muhammad, his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Thereafter; Brothers in Faith, The topic of today’s sermon is different from the previous ones, however, it is filled with great benefits and important information. Our sermon today is in relation to certain words we use in Arabic which most people are unaware of their true meanings and from what words they have been derived from. Such words are; Qalb (heart in...

Muhammad, the One with the Great Manners

All Praise is due to Allah and may Allah increase the honour and raise the rank of our Master Muhammad sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, the most humble, merciful, just, lenient, handsome, caring, and honourable creations of Allah, the one who was sent as a mercy to all of mankind and jinn, the one who has been given the honour of the major intercession (ash-Shafa^atul-kubra) on the Day of Judgment, the one from whose hands the righteous Muslims from this nation will drink before entering Paradise and thirst will never come to them ever again, and the one who will be the first to enter Paradise on the Day of Judgment. May Allah raise his rank, and his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Thereafter; Praise be to...

Our immense love for Prophet Muhammad

All Praise and thanks are due to Allah, and may Allah The Exalted, raise the rank and increase the honour of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. O Allah I humbly ask you to increase my love for your beloved Messenger and grant me his companionship in the highest level of Paradise. Amin. Dear respected brothers and sisters in faith; Our speech today is about our immense love for our beloved Master and Leader, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. We will also talk about some of those who truly and sincerely loved him and to what extent they did. Once, one of the blasphemers sneaked into one of the Prophet’s sessions where the companions used to gather to take a lesson from...

Seeing the Prophet in the Dream

We start in the name of Allah, Praise and thanks are due to Him, and may Allah, raise the rank of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Thereafter; Dear brothers in Islam, todays khutba is about some physical attributes of our master Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, and seeing him in one’s dream. The Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, said: the one who sees me in a dream has truly seen me for indeed the devil can not take my shape to deceive people. The Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, was not short and not tall; rather he was medium leaning toward tallness in height. His abdomen did not protrude beyond his chest. His face was by birth tinged with redness....

The Story of Noah’s Ark – ^Ashoura’ Cont…

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and may Allah shower His peace and blessings on our beloved Prophet and Master Muhammad, his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Thereafter;  Dear respected brothers in Islam; Imam Ahmad narrated in the Musnad (his book of Hadith) through the route of Abu Hurayrah that once the Prophet passed by a group of Jews in Madinah. The Prophet realised that they were fasting the 10th day of Muharram. The Prophet asked, “Why are you fasting this day?” They said this was the day when God rescued Prophet Moses and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh who drowned as well on that day. Reflecting about the Creations of Allah

“And verily, in the cattle of camels, cows and sheep, there is something to think about:” We start in the name of Allah, Praise and thanks are due to Him, and may Allah, raise the rank of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, his kind relatives and companions and protect his nation from that which he feared for them. Thereafter; Brothers in faith; to reflect over God’s creations is an act carrying a great deal of importance since it reinforces our belief in the greatness of Allah’s Power. Allah the Almighty deploys rains from the sky nourishing the earth after it had been dry. This is a sign understood only by those who take the time to listen with contemplating hearts. Unfortunately those who do not listen with their hearts are as if they didn’t hear at all....

The Day when everyone will plead for himself…..

Dear brothers in Islam; Surat An-Nahl verse 111 means: [On the Day when everyone will plead for himself and when every soul will reap what it had sown and they shall not be wronged.] Allah The Exalted informs us in this verse that on the Day of Judgment every person will be pleading their own case without worrying about anyone else’s situation rather each will be saying “me,me”. Every single one of us today will depart from this temporary and perishable world. Indeed the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam said: [I wonder how one be in demand of the pleasures of this world when death demands him, and I wonder how one does not question his state of sin when he is accountable for his deeds and shall be questioned, and I wonder how one could laugh so...

What is more beneficial than a servant?

Today’s speech is in the context of the hadith: “Shall I not direct you to what is more beneficial for you than having a servant?” Brothers in belief and in Islam, I urge you as I urge myself to adhere to the obligations and to avoid the prohibitions and to fear Allah. Let one be concerned with only one thing, that is, the Hereafter. Allah, the Exalted, is clear of imperfection and is truthful in what He revealed. Ayah 17 Surat Al-A^la means: {The Hereafter is more beneficial and everlasting}.   There is no doubt and no question about the rewards in the hereafter being magnificent and everlasting. This means that the pleasures of Paradise are superior in quality and quantity and longer lasting than the pleasures of this world. Also undoubted is the fact that...

The Acceptance of the Will of Allah

Allah the Exalted said in the Qur’an: {وما خلقتُ الجِنَّ والإنسَ إلا ليعبُدون } Ayahs 56, 57, 58 in Surat Adh-Dhariyat mean: {Allah created the Jinn and Humans and ordered them to worship Him.} Hence, if someone asks you, why did Allah cerate us? Let your answer be from the meaning of this Qur’anic Ayah: Allah created us to order us to worship Him. We are accountable for and obligated to worship Allah and to perform all the duties ordained upon us and to refrain from all prohibitions. If someone asks you, why do not all people follow Islam? Your answer should also be drawn from the meaning of the other Ayah: {وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لآتَيْنَا كُلَّ نَفْسٍ هُدَاهَا وَلَكِنْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ مِنِّي لأَمْلأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ} Ayah 13 of...

Raising the Children

All praise is Due to Allah and may Allah raise the rank of our Prophet Muhammad and protect his nation from which he fears for them there after. Dear brothers in Islam I commend my self and you in fulfilling the obligations and avoiding the unlawful. Dear brothers; Allah the Exalted created us into many tribes,...

Remaining Steadfast after Ramadan

Dear brothers in Islam, After we farewell the month of repentance let us all remain steadfast on repentance and after we farewell the month of good deeds let us also remain steadfast on performing acts of obedience. The proper and complete repentance is one which Allah the Exalted loves and accepts. It is the repentance where you repent from all the past committed sins, regret having done them and never return to sining. Immense Hurting of one’s parents (^Uquq)

Hurting one’s parents immensely (^uquq) is among the major sins. Allah threatened the one who does it with severe torture in Hellfire. This means to harm either or both parents immensely (causing them a lot of pain). Hurting one’s parents is unlawful whether it is severe or light. Among the examples of harming one’s parents is to: curse, or insult them both or either one. Among what is also considered unlawful is if the son obeys his mother in doing injustice to his father or vice versa. It does not benefit him if he obeyed his mother in a matter that would harm his father, because there should be no obedience to a human by disobeying Allah, the Creator. In summary, helping either parent in doing injustice to the other is sinful. Allah, ta^ala said in...

^Arafah

My dear brothers in Islam; I remind myself and you to fear Allah, The One deserving of Glory and Exaltment, and is clear from all the attributes of the creations and imperfection, and to adhere to the true Religion of Islam. Ayah 103 of Surat Ali ^Imran means: [Adhere to the true Religion of Allah and do not disunite. Recall the endowment of Allah upon you that you were enemies and Allah mended your hearts together and you became brothers in Islam, and you were on the edge of a pit of Fire, and Allah saved you from it. Thus Allah ta^ala makes His signs clear to you, so that you may be guided.]   Brothers in Islam; The nation of Prophet Muhammad today is eagerly awaiting a time to witness the best manifestation of unity, where Muslims with diverse...

Hajj

O Muslims: Allah has made the honoured Ka^bah a destination for millions of Muslims who come every year from far and away to visit this sacred place. They all meet there despite their various backgrounds, nationalities, languages and skin colour. Hajj is an annual Islamic gathering attended by hundreds of thousands of Muslims who come united under the banner of the testification of faith “No one is God except Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah”. They supplicate to Allah, introduce themselves and form close bonds strengthening their brotherhood and sisterhood with one another. Whether you are rich or poor, young or old and Arab or not has no bearing in terms of piety, rather, what does is one’s level of obedience to Allah. Dear brothers in Islam,...

THE MIGRATION OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD

All praise is due to Allah and may Allah raise the rank of our Master Muhammad and protect his nation from which he fears for it.   Brothers and sisters in Islam, the migration of Prophet Muhammad, otherwise known as the Hijrah, was not about running away from being killed, nor was it about fear, or a retreat from bidding the lawful or forbidding the unlawful. The Hijrah was done in obedience to what Allah had ordered.  Our master Muhammad peace be upon him prepared himself, assembled his troops and led them victoriously back to Makkah.  The Prophet and his companions, including the family of Yaser, endured many hardships, and yet they were very patient with what had happened to them.  During the Hajj season, when the people gathered, the Prophet peace be...

Then the Prophet said, “I am the one to fast that day ” and told his followers to fast the 10th of Muharram as well. He justified the reason for fasting that day by saying, “We associate with Moses more than others do”....

Palestine

Dear brothers in Islam Allah said: [ مِنَ المُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا مَا عَاهَدُوا اللهَ عَلَيْهِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ قَضَى نَحْبَهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَنْتَظِرُ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا تَبْدِيلا]. This ayah means:“ There are men among the believers who have been true to their covenant with Allah. Whilst some of them have passed away, others await death living piously remaining true to their vow”. And Allah said: ] وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُم بِشَىءٍ مِنَ الخَوفِ وَالجُوعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِنَ الأَمْوَالِ وَالأَنْفُسِ والثَّمَرَاتِ وَبَشِّرِ الصَّابِرِينَ الذِيْنَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُم مصِْيْبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا للهِ وإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِِعُون[ These Ayahs mean: “Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your deeds), but give...

Friday is the best day of the week.   The Prophet, sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam, said: خيرُ يومٍ طلعَت عليهِ الشمسُ يَومُ الجمعة فيهِ خُلقَ آدم وفيهِ أُدخل الجنة و فيهِ أخرجَ مِنها Khayru yawmin tala^at ^alayhish-shamsu yawmul-jumu^ah. Fihi khuliqa Adam, wa fihi udkhilal-jannah, wa fihi ukhrija minha. Which means: “Friday is the best day on which the Sun ever rose. In it Adam was created, admitted into Paradise, and taken out of it.” (Narrated by Muslim.)   Allah, ta^ala, made it obligatory to pray the Friday prayer (Jumu^ah) during this day. Verily in praising Allah, the hearts find comfort

Brothers in Islam, fear Allah subhanahu wa ta^ala as you should, and know that verses 56 and 57 of surat adh-Dhariyat mean: [Allah has created jinn and mankind and ordered them to worship Him.] This verse confirms that the purpose to their existence is to worship Allah and obey Him as such. Therefore, it is their duty to fulfil this command and refrain from indulging in the luxuries of this world where life is only temporary and not a permanent one. Itliving in this world can be compared to a travelling vessel which takes one to the afterlife and is not a place complete with ultimate happiness and delight. For this reason, the wise and intelligent inhabitants of this earth are the one who worship Allah with the smartest contently doing so. In light of the truth...

Seven persons are shaded by the ^Arsh

Praise and thanks are due to Allah, and may Allah raise the rank of our prophet Muhammad and protect his nation from that which he fears for it. Dear brothers in Islam Abu Hurayra narrated that the Prophet said, ” On the Day of Judgement Allah will give the shade of the ^Arsh (Throne), to seven, when there will be no shade but the shade of the ^Arsh. These seven persons are; a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, a man whose heart is attached to the mosques, two persons who love each other only for Allah’s sake and they meet and depart in Allah’s cause only, a man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for unlawful intercourse with her and says: I am fearful of Allah, a man who gives charitable...

Concealing other’s faults

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, may Allah raise the rank of Prophet Muhammad, his kind Al and Companions, dear brothers in Islam,   Prepare for Judgment Day. Accumulate your deeds of obedience to Allah in this life to take with you for the everlasting life of the hereafter. Commit yourself to the obedience of your Lord and avoid what He forbade. Ask Allah to make your hearts among the hearts that fear Allah, make your eyes among the eyes that weep in humility to the Creator and make you among the ones that are always satisfied with the sustenance Allah provides them with. Ask Allah, dear brothers, to protect you from committing the sins as they might lead to a miserable ending. Many people blasphemed before their death and died as blasphemers due...

I urge you, as I urge myself, to be obedient to Allah, the Exalted, to remain steadfast on the path of Prophet Muhammad – may peace be upon him – and to follow the methodology of the noble scholars who taught Islam. I remind you of what lay in store for those people leaving for the Muslim nation a great wealth of knowledge in all subjects of Islamic studies. Among such noble scholars were: Imam Malik, Imam ash-Shafi^iyy, Imam Ahmad Ibn Hambal and Imam Abu Hanifah. These scholars reached the rank of Mujtahid and their knowledge and ijtihad was of great benefit to Muslims. Ijtihad is deducing religious edicts and rulings for which there is no explicit judgement in the...
